While Sandisk has been dropping hints for a while, this is the first time that the actually manufacturer has given its blessing to the Rockbox project. Austria MicroSystems, manufacturer of the SBC in Sandisk's Sansa series of MP3 players, told Rockbox developers last week that it will give them all of the documentation they need for the port as well as A4 form factor kits for easy hardware debugging if the Rockbox project will agree to also port its excellent open source firmware to AMS's upcoming SBC.
So that's good news to me.
